Mitsuru Sugaya
Manga Artist
Born in 1950 in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture. 73 years old.
Started drawing manga in the sixth grade.
In 1969, moved to Tokyo to pursue a career as a manga artist right after graduating high school. After working as a manga assistant and in editorial production, debuted in 1971 with "Kamen Rider" (original work by Shotaro Ishinomori).
In 1983, won the Shogakukan Manga Award for his representative works "Game Center Arashi" and "Hello My Computer".
In 1994, made a comeback as an entertainment novelist, publishing over 60 novels.
In 2005, enrolled in Waseda University's School of Human Sciences e-School.
In 2011, completed the master's program at Waseda University Graduate School of Human Sciences (at age 60).
From 2013 to 2021, served as a professor at Kyoto Seika University Faculty of Manga.
From 2024, will be the president of the Japan Manga Association.
